“Enhancing Positive Influence in the Context of Adult Education”

EPIC RAISING AWARENESS ON POWER, WORLDVIEW AND POSITIVE INFLUENCE

The space for all those professionals working with adult learners who want to know more about positive influence, in a social-constructivist and andragogical approach, to reflect on power dynamics and create more respectful, empowering learning spaces.

ABOUT EPIC – EPIC equips adult educators, trainers, and other professionals working in adult learning settings with the essential tools to foster deep inclusion and effectively manage the complexities of modern adult education. Our project focuses on how educators can positively influence the learning environment, promote empowerment, and uphold accountability, offering practical guidelines on Anti-Oppressive Practices tailored for adult learning contexts.
The EPIC project and its resources enhance professionals’ skills in understanding and leveraging their unique influence within learning relationships. This allows them to better support diverse adult learners and create a professional stance that celebrates diversity, fostering truly empowering and accountable adult education environments.

FOR WHOM – for all those professionals working with adults, for example educators, educational support staff, managers and HR staff of organisations active in adult education, and interested in exploring and understanding how their personal experience and social roles as “experts” may affect the educational context and how to positively exploit their influence to develop a more inclusive and respectful learning context.

OUR MISSION – EPIC provides adult educators knowledge and guidelines to reflect on their role of power and understand how power dynamics shape their relationships with learners—especially those facing barriers or risk of exclusion—supporting them to recognise their influence in the learning process, practise self-reflection and empathy, and build more inclusive, respectful and supportive environments.

OUR RESULTS – Gain insight into the research results and access up-to-date data about if and how adult educators’ influence – including their authority role, personal worldview and communication practices – affects learning processes, inclusion and participation in adult education settings, and how this influence can be used consciously and positively to support learner-centred and inclusive education.

Access our workbook, providing practical insights and guidance to support adult educators in improving the quality of their professional practice through increased awareness of their influence in learning, how their authority and personal perspectives shape relationships in the training process, and how reflective practice can foster more respectful, inclusive and learner-centred educational environments.
